woofwoofhowl-deactivated2012022 asked: since both liberals and conservatives seem reluctant to back a candidate this might be a good year for a third party contender who can appeal to both sides to run. i think democrats and especially republicans have relied on empty rhetoric for so long they've diluted themselves of strong candidates and disillusioned members from both parties are on BOLO patrol for some new voice of reason.
The problem with 3rd party candidates is that there is no mandate to say what that party will be so they spread the vote thin amongst each other. Buddy Roemer will surely run as 3rd party with Americans Elect, Gary Johnson has already announced he’s running for the Libertarian Party, Donald Trump talks about running as an independent. Then you have the Green Party, the Constitution Party, and a whole host more. So many options will always assure 3rd place. On the Republican side I wouldn’t be surprised if someone still jumped into the race, such as Mitch Daniels.
